Our History: "100 Years of Baking Excellence"
The Prestano family immigrated to New York in 1907 from Sicily. "Uncle Joe" opened the first bakery in Manhattan and sold mainly italian bread and dry-goods. With 12 brothers and 1 sister, it quickly grew into a family business that was destined to continue for many years to come. Santo Prestano, "Popa" - the current owner's great-grandfather, opened the next bakery in 1955 on White Plains Avenue in the Bronx with his father, Settimo Prestano. Eventually Prestano Bakery moved out to eastern long island where the family baking tradition has continued. There are currently 4 independently-owned Prestano Bakery locations on Long Island to date.
